Plot[]

Based on the story of the original Pokémon Red and Blue Versions, and their remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen, the film takes place in the fictional Kanto region.

The main protagonist, Red (Tommy Vaccaro) from Pallet Town, is about to start his journey of becoming a Pokémon Trainer. Red is called upon by Professor Oak (Henry Winkler) to choose his starter Pokémon. Oak's grandson and Red's rival Blue (Bobby Vaccaro) is also starting his adventure. Oak offers Red and Blue their own choice of a starter Pokémon. Red chooses the Grass/Poison-type, Bulbasaur, and Blue chooses the Fire-type, Charmander. The two beginning trainers then battle in Professor Oak's laboratory, with Red emerging victorious, despite being at a type disadvantage.

Red later travels across the Kanto region to earn his gym badges in order to compete in the Pokémon League.

While traveling through Mt. Moon, Red encounters the evil organization, Team Rocket, a group of thugs who steal other trainers Pokémon. Team Rocket is lead by Giovanni (J. K. Simmons).

Cast[]

  • Tommy Vaccaro as Red (Red) - The Trainer:

The main protagonist of the film based on the player character of the Kanto games.

  • Bobby Vaccaro as Blue (Green) - The Rival:

Red's rival and Professor Oak's grandson based on the rival character of the Kanto games.

  • Henry Winkler as Professor Samuel Oak (Dr. Yukinari Okido) - The Pokémon Professor:

The professor of the Kanto region and Blue's grandfather. Oak wants Red to compete in the Pokemon League and to discover all 150 Pokemon in the Kanto region.

  • J. K. Simmons as Giovanni (Sakaki) - The Rocket Boss:

The boss of Team Rocket who is later revealed to be the Viridian Gym leader.

  • Linda Rocco Higgins (cameo) as Red's Mom (Red's Mom):

Red's mother who always watches the house. She gives Red a pair of running shoes and wishes Red the best of luck on his journey. She is played by Tommy and Bobby's mother in real life.

  • Anna Kendrick (cameo) as Daisy Oak (Nanami Okido):

Blue's older sister and Professor Oak's grandaughter. She gives Red a map of the Kanto region.

  • TBA as Brock (Takeshi) - The Rock Solid Pokémon Trainer:

The first Gym Leader of Kanto. Brock leads the gym in Pewter City and specializes in Rock-type Pokémon. Red earns the Boulder Badge for defeating him.

  • TBA as Misty (Kasumi) - The Tomboyish Mermaid:

The second Gym Leader of Kanto. Misty leads the gym in Cerulean City and specializes in Water-type Pokémon. Red earns the Cascade Badge for defeating her.

  • Mark Gibbon as Lt. Surge (Matis) - The Lightning American:

The third Gym Leader of Kanto. Surge leads the gym in Vermilion City and specializes in Electric-type Pokémon. Red earns the Bolt Badge for defeating him.

Changes from the Game[]

  • The player character is always silent and only responds to yes/no questions asked by NPCs. Since Red is the lead character, lines are given to improve the story.
  • Exprerience points aren't shown through battle scenes in the film. Instead, Red can check his Pokémon's stats using his PokéDex.
  • In the film, the credits don't role when Red defeats Blue in the champion battle. Instead, the credits role after Red shows Professor Oak his fully completed PokéDex. The reason for this is because after becoming Champion of Kanto, Red will be able to enter Cerulean Cave and battle Mewtwo. It should be noted that Mew isn't required to complete the PokéDex, which further explains Mew's cameo after the credits.
  • Additional lines have been given to most characters.

Script[]

Chapter 1: The Pokémon World[]

*The film opens in a forest with a wild Gengar battling a wild Nidorino in reminiscent of the Red/Blue opening. The Nidorino uses Horn Attack on the Gengar, and then the screen cuts to Professor Oak's laboratory.*

Professor Oak: "Hello there! Glad to meet you! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My name is Oak! People affectionately refer to me as the Pokémon Professor!"

*Oak summons a NidoranM out of a PokéBall.*

"This world... ...is inhabited far and wide by creatures called Pokémon! For some people, Pokémon are pets. Others use them for battling. Myself...I study Pokémon as a profession."

*Oak returns the NidoranM to it's PokéBall.*

"Now, tell me a little about yourself. What is your name?"

Red: "My name is Red."

Professor Oak: "Right! So your name is Red! This is my grandson. He's been your rival since you both were babies. ...Erm, what was his name now?"

Blue: *Grunts.* "Grandpa! My name is Blue! You know that!"

Professor Oak: "That's right, I remember now! His name his Blue!

Blue: *Sighs.*

Professor Oak: "Red! Your very own Pokémon legend is about to unfold! A world of dreams and adventures with Pokémon awaits! Let's go!"

Red: "All right! Let's do it!"

*The camera angle moves above Red and the logo for the movie appears. The screen then cuts to Red's bedroom.*

Chapter 2: Red's Beginning[]

Red: *Red puts on his wristbands, his backpack, and his hat and takes a Potion out of his item storage.*

"This is it! I finally get to become a Pokémon Trainer! It's gonna be a long journey, but I'm ready for anything!"

*Red walks downstairs to his mother in the living room/kitchen.*

Red's Mom: *Red's Mom is sitting down watching Stand By Me.*

"...Right. All boys leave home someday. It said so on TV. Oh, yes. Professor Oak, next door, was looking for you."

Red: "I wonder what he wants..."

*Red goes outside and walks up to the tall grass.*

Professor Oak: "Hey! Wait! Don't go out!"

Red: "Huh?"

*Red turns around as Oak runs up to him.*

Professor Oak: "It's unsafe! Wild Pokémon live in the tall grass! You need your own Pokémon for your protection. I know! Here, come with me!"

Red: "Okay."

*Oak escorts Red to his laboratory. Inside the lab, Blue is waiting impatiently for Oak to show up.*

Professor Oak: "Right this way, Red."

Blue: "Gramps! I'm fed up with waiting!"

Professor Oak: "Blue? Let me think... Oh, that's right, I told you to come! Just wait! Here, Red! There are three Pokémon here. Haha! The Pokémon are held inside these PokéBalls. When I was young, I was a serious Pokémon Trainer. But now, in my old age, I have only these three left. You can have one. Go on, choose!"

Blue: "Hey! Gramps! No fair! What about me?"

Professor Oak: "Be patient, Blue. You can have one, too! Now, Red. Inside these three PokéBalls are Pokémon. Which one will you choose for yourself?"

Red: *Red looks inside the PokéBalls.*

"Hmm..."

Blue: "Heh, I don't need to be greedy like you. I'm mature! Go ahead and choose, Red!"

Red: "At least I'm patient."

*Red looks at Bulbasaur's PokéBall.*

"I choose this one."

Professor Oak: "I see! Bulbasaur is your choice. It's very easy to raise. So, Red, you want to go with the Grass Pokémon Bulbasaur?"

Red: "Yes I do."

Blue: *Blue takes Charmander's PokéBall.*

"I'll take this one, then! My Pokémon looks alot tougher than yours."

Red: "Sure it does."

*Red walks away from Blue.*

Chapter 3: Red and Blue's First Battle[]

Blue: "Wait, Red! Let's check out our Pokémon. Come on, I'll take you on!"

*Blue summons his Charmander out of it's PokéBall. His Charmander is male and at level 5 with 22 hit points.*

Red: "This should be fun."

*Red summons his Bulbasaur out of it's PokéBall. His Bulbasaur is male and at level 5 with 20 hit points.*

Professor Oak: "Oh, for Pete's sake...So pushy, as always. Red. You've never had a Pokemon battle before, right?"

Red: "No, I haven't."

Professor Oak: "A Pokémon battle is when trainers pit their Pokémon against each other. The trainer that makes the other Trainer's Pokémon faint by lowering their HP to "0," wins. But rather than talking about it, you'll learn more from experience. Try battling and see for yourself."

Red: "Okay. This is our first battle, Blue. Don't hold back!"

Blue: "Bring it on!"

Red: "Bulbasaur! Use Growl!

*Red's Bulbasaur uses Growl on Blue's Charmander, lowering it's Attack stat by one stage.*

Professor Oak: "Lowering the foe's stats will put you at an advantage."

Blue: "That's not enough! Charmander! Use Scratch!"

*Blue's Charmander uses Scratch on Red's Bulbasaur, damaging it by 4 hit points.*

Red: "Stay strong, Bulbasaur! Use Tackle!"

*Bulbasaur uses Tackle on Charmander, damaging it by 5 hit points.*

Professor Oak: "Inflicting damage on the foe is the key to any battle."

Blue: "Charmander! Scratch again!"

*Charmander uses Scratch on Bulbasaur, landing a critical hit, damaging it by 10 hit points.*

Red: "Bulbasaur! This will help you."

*Red takes a Potion out of his medicine pocket and uses it to heal Bulbasaur.*

"We're not done yet. Hang in there, Bulbasaur!"

Blue: "It's gonna take more than that! Use Scratch!"

*Charmander uses Scratch, but Bulbasaur avoids the attack. Blue then growls in reaction.*

Red: "Nice work! Use Tackle!"

*Bulbasaur uses Tackle on Charmander, landing a critical hit, damaging it by 9 hit points.*

Blue: *Growls.* "Scratch it again!"

*Blue's Charmander uses Scratch, damaging Bulbasaur by 5 hit points.*

Red: "Let's finish it! Bulbasaur! Use Tackle one more time!"

*Bulbasaur uses Tackle, damaging Charmander by 6 hit points, causing it to faint. Bulbasaur gains 67 experience points and grows to level 6.*

Blue: "WHAT? Unbelievable! I picked the wrong Pokémon!

*Blue gives Red $80 for winning.*

Red: "Yes! Way to go, Bulbasaur!"

Professor Oak: "Hm! Excellent! If you win, you earn prize money, and your Pokémon will grow! Battle other trainers and make your Pokémon strong!

Blue: "Okay! I'll make my Pokémon battle to toughen it up! Red! Gramps! Smell you later!"

*Blue walks out of Oak's laboratory.*

Red: "Hard to believe that he's MY rival."

Professor Oak: "Red, raise your young Pokémon by making it battle. It has to battle for it to grow."

Red: "Will do, Professor!"

Chapter 4: Oak's Invention[]
